At the end of September 2016, the Royal Saudi Airforce awarded a contract for a network upgrade and solution expansion to TAJ Systems, a surveillance, safety and security technology solution provider partnering with Frequentis. This new solution for Aeronautical Information Management will allow the RSAF to be globally interoperable and fully digital in the future.
To ensure a safe and efficient data-centric Aeronautical Information Management solution compliant to ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards, Royal Saudi Airforce decided to upgrade and expand their existing technology. The existing solution doesn’t support the requested level of automation, interoperability and efficiency for international air navigation. Aeronautical Information Management and data has to respond to a worldwide interoperability and data-centric approach.
The scope of delivery comprises an upgrade of the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) and new Aeronautical Message Handling Services (AMHS). A range of solutions including NOTAM (Notices to Airmen) Management, OPMET (Operational Meteorological) Database, Flight Planning (including military specific approval functionality), and Briefing will provide a state-of-the-art Aeronautical Information Management. The infrastructure will be fully virtualised and data-centric.
“With the new solution RSAF will be ready for future Aeronautical Information Management to better serve airspace users with their information management requirements. Automation, databases and user-friendliness will be extremely improved”, said Husam Hendaidy, VP at TAJ Systems.
“Air forces need to keep pace with civil air traffic management trends to enable superior cooperation. We are a well-known player in the civil sector and are very proud to implement our solution now as well in the defence sector, thanks to our unique solution architecture and our outstanding relationship with our local partner TAJ Systems”, states Joachim Lennarz, Business Unit Manager Aeronautical Information Management at Frequentis.
