Azercosmos announces leadership transition

Samaddin Asadov has stepped down from his position as Chair of the Board of Azercosmos. His leadership, dedication, and contributions have been instrumental in the agency’s growth, global expansion, and strategic advancements in satellite communications and space technologies.

Mr. Asadov has been appointed Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the order of the President.

During this transition, Dunay Badirkhanov will oversee operations to ensure continuity and uphold our commitment to excellence in serving our customers and partners.

Mr. Badirkhanov has been with Azercosmos since 2011, in various positions, from a core team member undergoing international training in satellite engineering and operations in preparation for the launch and operations of Azerbaijan’s first satellite, Azerspace-1 to Director of Satellite and Ground-based Systems. Since 2018, he has served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Azercosmos.

Beyond his contributions to Azercosmos, Mr. Badirkhanov actively participates in activities of International Astronautical Federation since 2019. He served as the International Program Committee Co-Chair and was an executive member of the Organizing Committee for the 74th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) – Baku Chapter, held on October 2-6, 2023.

He is also an active member of the Space Communications and Navigation Committee (SCAN) and the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Administrative Committee (IDEA). His dedication to the field was recognized in 2021, when the IAF honored him as a Young Space Leader.
