UAEU launches its first satellite - Al Ain Sat-1

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has announced the successful launch of its first satellite, "Al Ain Sat-1," developed by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).


AlainSat-1 is a collaboration project between NSSTC and the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) in the form of the and GRSS Student Grand Challenge in order to allow student teams to develop Earth Observation payloads for a small satellite.


The satellite was launched aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, and the university's ground station successfully received its first signal.


Commenting on the achievement, Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the UAE President and Chancellor of UAEU, described the satellite's launch as a historic milestone for the university. He praised it as the result of tireless efforts by a dedicated team of researchers and experts, working in collaboration with leading international scientific institutions.


He further highlighted that this achievement marks a significant step in UAEU's pursuit of excellence in scientific research and space sciences. It also aligns with the vision of the UAE's leadership to enhance the nation's role in space exploration and drive the development of advanced technological solutions.
